Translation: Eggnog is a favorite for holiday gatherings. Source: Everyday Food, December 2003. Preparation time: 1 hour, 30 minutes. Total time: 6 servings. Ingredients: 4 cups of milk, 1 cup of sugar, 12 large egg yolks, 1/2 cup of bourbon (optional), 1 cup of chilled heavy cream, grated nutmeg (optional). Directions: 1. In a medium-sized saucepan, whisk the milk and sugar over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, about 1-2 minutes. In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks continuously. Slowly and steadily pour the hot mixture into the egg yolks. 2. Return the mixture to the saucepan. Cook the mixture over medium to low heat, stirring frequently, until it becomes thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 20-25 minutes; do not let it boil. Quickly strain the mixture into a bowl. Stir in bourbon, if desired, and cream. Cover with plastic wrap and chill completely. Serve with grated nutmeg, if desired.
