This moist chocolate brownie, covered with caramel and nuts, combines the classic components of turtles. The recipe makes 16 servings and is from Martha Stewart Living, February 2004. To make the brownies, you will need unsalted butter, high-quality unsweetened chocolate, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, eggs, whole milk, and pure vanilla extract. For the filling, you will need sugar, heavy cream, pure vanilla extract, coarse salt, and chopped toasted pecans. The instructions are to melt the chocolate and butter, mix the dry ingredients, beat the sugar and eggs, add the chocolate mixture and milk, and then fold in the dry ingredients. Bake for 27-30 minutes, then make the caramel topping by boiling sugar and water, adding cream, vanilla, salt, and pecans, and spreading over the cooled brownies.
