These candied walnuts are the perfect addition to our Walnut-Olive-Oil Cake. The recipe yields 1 1/2 cups and comes from Martha Stewart Living, October 2005. To make them, toast 1 1/2 cups of halved, roasted walnuts in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of sugar over medium heat, swirling occasionally, until it turns a medium shade of yellow. Add the walnuts and stir to coat. Spread the mixture onto a rimmed baking sheet lined with a Silpat baking mat and bake for 10 minutes. Use two forks to separate the nuts and sprinkle with coarse salt. Let cool completely.
