This recipe for a rich, creamy cake can be served without decoration or, as Chef David Waltuck recommends, sprinkled with powdered sugar and garnished with a berry compote or freshly poached peaches and whipped cream. The recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of unsalted butter, 1 package of Philadelphia brand cream cheese, 3 cups of sugar, 6 large eggs, 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract, 3 cups of all-purpose flour, and 1 teaspoon of salt. The cake is baked in a 10-inch tube pan at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes. After cooling for 20 minutes, the cake is removed from the pan and served at room temperature.
