This cake entices with a salty-sweet crust and a light powdery cinnamon-apple filling. The recipe is from Martha Stewart Living, February 2006 and serves 8 portions. For the crust, you will need all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cold unsalted butter. For the filling, you will need sugar, ground cinnamon, a large apple or 2 small apples (such as Gala), half and half, and eggs. To make the crust, preheat the oven to 375 degrees and mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Work in the butter with your fingers and press into a 9-inch pie plate. For the filling, mix the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and evenly distribute the apple slices on top of the crust. Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar and bake for 15 minutes. Mix the half and half and eggs together and pour over the apples. Increase the oven temperature to 400 degrees and bake until set, about 20 minutes. Let cool on a rack for at least 1 hour.
