These power-packed treats are easy to prepare, fun to eat, and full of protein and whole grains. Source: Everyday Food, March 2011. The recipe calls for honey, unsalted butter, rolled oats, slivered almonds, salt, raisins or other dried fruit, creamy almond butter or other nut butter, and light brown sugar. The instructions are to preheat the oven, combine the honey and butter in a small saucepan, mix the oats, almonds, and salt in a large bowl, drizzle the honey mixture over the oat mixture and stir to combine, spread the mixture on a baking sheet and bake until golden brown, add the raisins, and then combine the remaining honey, almond butter, and brown sugar in a saucepan and cook until the mixture boils and the sugar dissolves. Drizzle the mixture over the granola and press it into a baking dish. Bake until firm, cut into bars or squares, and store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days. You can substitute your favorite nuts and dried fruits to suit your familys taste. Let the kids help measure, stir, and press the granola mixture into the baking dish.
